Notes

(1) The “Northern Ireland Championship” features the Seven Pre-Irish American Football League of 1986 teams that were based in Ireland: five “European Theater of Operations” ETO Football Championship teams based in Northern Ireland during WWII and the two teams of specially-trained Rugby Players who played a Festival match at Banbridge RFC in 1983.

(2) The Irish Conference includes six Republic of Ireland teams who were scheduled to play in the Irish American Football League in 1990, but never did – in the end only five Northern Ireland teams started the season, with Dublin Celts playing in the British 2nd Division. At least one Preseason Friendly was played among these teams: Bray Seahawks v Dublin Tornadoes, and Lee Valley Steelers (Cork) and Limerick Patriots were to play in the League in 1992 and 1993. Dublin Pirates collapsed at the end of the season and a failed attempt was made to bring them back in 1992. Nothing else is known about the Waterford and Galway franchises, not even their name, and also the team in Athy mentioned as “already playing” in Lindie Naughton’s Minority Sports Column in the Evening Herald in 1993.

(3) The Northern Ireland Junior American League includes not just teams which played Junior Football only (City Colts, Ballymena Wolfhounds, Prospect Pumas and Brownlow Bandit, but also those who played Two-Touch only – a form of Contact Football without pads and helmets – all players could be tackled except the ball carrier who could only be tackled by placing two hands on him or her. TheseTwo-Touch Only teams are: Lisburn Groundhogs, Maiden City Maulers and Peel Crusaders (Isle of Man).

(4) DV8 Development League includes 8v8 Development League-only teams, who never played full 11v11 Tackle Football.

(5) A separate Belfast Knights and Carrickfergus Knights have been created for the purposes of this hypothetitcal “Madden” / “Fantasy Football” League for the two Eras of the Knights history.

(6) Galway Sea Devils and Dundalk IT Razorbacks, while both never played in the League, were full members (*)

Report

In the first season of AFL Ireland Fantasy NFL, Roscommon Rascals and Killiney Kats jumped off the 3-0 starts in the National Conference and Irish Conference respectively. Only Killiney Kats were able to keep up the pace finishing with a 12-3 record. By the end of the season they had won the Irish Conference and Longford Raiders the National Conference although all teams in that Conference finished with a losing record.

The Raiders finished on 7-8, with the Roscommon Rascals (5-10) and Knocklyon Thunderbirds (4-11) entering the Consolation Bracket. Also qualifying for the Championship Playoffs in the Irish Conference were The Blue Skies who finished second on 10-5, and Dublin City Storm on 7-8.

The Playoffs featured a number of shocks – Knocklyon Thunderbirds defeated Roscommon Rascals to win the Consolation and Dublin City Storm shocked both Killiney Kats in the Semi-Finals and The Blue Skies in the Fantasy SuperBowl. Killiney Kats beat Longford Raiders to take third.

Report

The first American Football Ireland Official Madden Championship (Computer Console Game) started in 2020, providing American Football in response to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. There are two Championships: a Playstation 4 and Xbox One Championship, each single elimination with 64 players entering each, who must be registered members of AFI clubs.

Maynooth University Hurricanes (4-0), South Dublin Panthers (3-0), Trinity College Dublin (2-0), West Dublin Rhinos (2-0) and NI Razorbacks (1-0) all had 100% records after Round 1.

After Round 2, Trinity College Dublin (4-0) were the only team with a perfect record, and along with South Dublin Panthers (5-1), Cork Admirals (4-1), MU Hurricanes (6-2), and Belfast Trojans and Donegal / Derry Vipers (both 4-2) the only teams with two players left.

The Quarter-Final match-ups left no team with more than one player left: Trinity College Dublin, South Dublin Panthers, Cork Admirals, MU Hurricanes, Belfast Trojans, Donegal/Derry Vipers, Belfast Knights and Downpatrick Saints all winning through to the Semi-Finals.

Jonathan Hedley of the Belfast Knights and Jahn Dasini of the Cork Admirals progressed to the Final of the PS4 Championship, with Jonathan Hedley prevailing 38-35. In the XBox Final, Darren Quinn of the Donegal/Derry Vipers triumphed James Smyth of the South Dublin Panthers 35-24 to make it an Ulster double in the first ever AFI Madden Championship.

First Down, a British Weekly American Football Newspaper began running a Fantasy Gridiron Competition in 1995, where players chose teams from a list of NFL players and scored points based on how they fared in real NFL matches.

Teams with an NFL-like name and Ireland placenames have been included in this Ireland Fastasy Gridiron, taken from the full list of teams, managers and scores published in First Down from January 7, 1995 to February 25, 1995.

The Top-ranked Ireland team was Tralee Tigers, managed by John Devaney, with 264 Points, followed by Bally Bolts, Armagh Weeds, Lisburn Warriors, Manx Cats and Louth Monarchs.

Report

The Irish Fantasy League of American Football started in 1994 with five teams: Crumlin Red Giants (Champions 1994), Maltese Mastodons, Wicklow Wolves, Castleknock Cougars and Leitrim Cruisers. Corrigeen Crusaders and South Central Stingrays joined in 1995, but the winners that year and in 1996 were Wicklow Wolves. The only change in 1996 was a move for the Maltese Mastodons to Mornington.

1997 saw another expansion team: Casement Cheetahs. this year the new, match-up league system was introduced, with two Conferences, Lombardi and Madden introduced, with teams placed in one or the other depending on where they finished the previous year. Promotion and Relegation was also introduced. (For the IFLAF 1997-2005 see: Irish Fantasy League of American Football 1997-2005 and for IFLAF 2006-2015 Irish Fantasy League of American Football 2006-2015 ). The League folded in 2015 after all of the original franchises had left.

USL eCup Rocket League Edition Group Schedule 2020 [Ref: 2]

About

The USL eCup Rocket League edition is basically a hybrid of arcade-style soccer with vehicular mayhem. players drive rocket-propelled cars with the aim of scoring goals with a soccer ball. The USL eCup groups 32 USL Championship and League 1 teams into eight groups with knockout stages to follow. Matches were Best of 3, with Knockout Rounds Best of 5 and the Final Best of 7.

The eight Group Winners were Tacoma Defiance, Charleston Battery, Philadelphia Union II, San Antonio FC, St. Louis FC, Union Omaha, FC Tucson and Birmingham Legion FC. FC Tucson defeated St. Louis FC 3-1 in the Semi-Finals, and in the other Semi-Final, Union Omaha beat San Antonio FC 3-0. The Final was Best of 7, with FC Tucson emerging Champions, 4-0 over Union Omaha.

Report

The Relocation Football League is a Madden NFL Console Computer Sports League, featuring Real Players who take control of a team in the NFL, including Relocation Teams. For the first four seasons it had just Relocation Teams, but doubled in size for its fifth season adding the Real NFC and AFC teams, making a 64-team League.

Season 5 is set in 2033, but took place in Real time in 2020. Division winners were: Dublin Celtic Tigers, San Diego Red Dragons, Brooklyn Bulls, San Antonio Dreadnoughts, New York Giants, Los Angeles Rams, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans, Memphis Steamers, San Diego Crusaders, Toronto Thunderbirds and San Antonio Marshalls.

About

The Relocation Football League is a Madden NFL Computer Console Game which utilises the ability of the users to relocate teams to American or International cities that currently have no NFL team.

The NFL is the National Football League, or Major League of American Football, and Madden is John Madden, a famous TV Commentator who lent his name to the Computer Game Franchise whereby players take control of players in an online game. The NFL & Madden names are both licensed by the manufacturers of the game.

The Head Coaches are real people, who take control of a team’s playing and rosters. Players are based on actual NFL players, or can be created from scratch by the users.
